Speed Public Speaking Workshop. Relaxation on stage

  • No I am not joking. We need to breathe, we need to stretch and relax before getting on stage, whilst walking towards the stage, and even whilst being on stage. We all have a tendency to forget that a few good habits, once learned, can help improve our performances dramatically...

Although the headlines and themes for these sessions are always different, the basic format is always the same : - Four or five opportunities to speak for a short time per evening (impromptu speaking on easy topics such as conversation starters...)

    - Positive feed back to strengthen confidence by becoming more aware of existing qualities (by the group)

    - Suggestions for improvement/ alternative ways to experiment immediately (I suggest this) A session's headline reflects a particular aspect of public speaking which we'll pay more attention to, however they are not set in stone, as feed back is not something that can be planned before listening :-) One slot per evening is available for a prepared speech from the manual. You earn discounts as you progress in this manual!

Speed Public Speaking Workshop: Keep it simple and have fun

Whether we prepare in advance or improvise, the more we structure, the better. However, having a good structure is not always enough. The audience has to be aware of the structure. After all, it's for them to get the best out of our speech that we bother to structure ! Sign posting is just about that: Explaining the structure as we go along....

Silence and Mayonnaise: A Feast of Speeches. Free event.

Why is this event called “Silence and Mayonnaise”?

One of the most memorable speeches I’ve ever heard is called “Silence,” by Talia Aljibade. You will hear it performed by Talia at this event, as I have invited her to be one of my featured guests for this event. In 6 or 7 minutes, she will make us forget that we are sitting on chairs. Instead, we will travel with her, visiting some of her childhood memories, hear of violence, fear, abuse... and wonder. Is silence always gold?

Mayonnaise. Another of my featured guests will be Kaveh Pourland. I do not yet know what he is going to talk about. What I do know for sure, is that he will entertain. And we will ask for more. Kaveh overcame a stammer to become the talented speaker and humorist he is now. We will learn about his struggles to say the word “Mayonnaise”. When he talks about his personal history, he makes us laugh like we are usually not allowed to laugh. Mayonnaise...

I don’t want to tell you about my other secret guests. Trust me, we are going to enjoy ourselves. We will be watching and listening with wide eyes and ears.

I am also a storyteller. I will tell you the secret of happiness, in love, out of love, and possibly in business.

This feast of speeches will rejoice our ears and our hearts. But we won’t just listen and leave. We will discus and continue to enjoy each others’ company afterwards...

Now, dear Speed Public Speaking Trainees, I hope you get the bug. I hope you come along regularly, use the manual, unleash your talent, and take to the stage to share, enchant, incite laughter, or stimulate ideas. Grabbing an audience’s attention and keeping it is one of the greatest pleasures in life, and it is useful: it helps us all to become more human. It enables us to communicate better, listen, understand each other, and express ourselves.

Build up confidence Cultivate Charisma

Confidence without arrogance is charisma

Being ourselves with simplicity is charisma

Charisma happens... when we unlock our uniqueness!

Little step by little step, we build up confidence and let charisma happen.

Although the themes for these sessions are always different, the basic format is always the same:

- Four or five opportunities to speak for a short time per evening (impromptu speaking on easy topics such as conversation starters)

- Positive feedback (from the group) to improve confidence by becoming more aware of existing strengths

- Suggestions for improvement/ideas of alternative ways to communicate, which can be immediately practised (suggested by me)

A session's theme reflects a particular aspect of public speaking which we'll pay more attention to; however they are not set in stone, as feedback is not something that can be planned before listening :-)

One slot per evening is available for a speaker interested in presenting a prepared speech from the manual. You earn discounts as you progress in this manual!

Say it with a story

It's St Georges's day! A perfect day to tell stories. They can be simple anecdotes, tales from our everyday life, or carefully devised narratives we tell to our business partners or potential investors. Whatever the subject, whatever the contest, say it with a story.

Although the themes for these sessions are always different, the basic format is always the same:

- Four or five opportunities to speak for a short time per evening (impromptu speaking on easy topics such as conversation starters)

The Yellow Tribune Second Meeting

  • You will climb upstairs.  You will find a chair and a table. The entry will be free - you might want to help with a little donation later, I'm hiring the room.

I will start talking from the stage. Maybe I'll start mentioning these kinds of comments people make: you know, sometimes they tell you to be yourself, but when you are yourselves, they tell you you shouldn't be like that! It's time to laugh about it. Imagine the sensitive guy trying to look manly, not too aware of everything, just cool, and trying to look "I am just myself"! Or a little story like this:  http://youtu.be/mz2Zn919Cmk

On the other hand, when you're sensitive, there are moments of connection with the heart of things.... Do my words ring bells ?....

A few other speakers might join. If you feel like it contact me for booking a one to two minutes slot or a five to seven minutes, if you are already a bit experienced.

A part from the public speaking moments, we have a room with tables and chairs, there is a bar downstairs to order drinks or even food, and meaningful conversations to have with like minded fellow human beings.

Let's feel free and connected !

Guided Tour with a Speed Public Speaking twist

Sunday, April 12, 2015

2:00pm 4:30pm

St Paul's Tube Station Exit 2 Cheap Side EC1 London UK

We will be going for a walk in the city with professional tour guide, Nika Garrett (My London Tours) However, this will not be a traditional tour where only the guide speaks. Nika will take us to different places, discuss a few essential points about each place so that we can appreciate her public speaking style and skills, and then we will do Speed Public Speaking exercises in the usual fashion. We will discuss what she said or comment about what we feel or think about at each of the spots we visit, The main challenge will be to speak outdoors. Let's see how it goes! The tour will end in a pub but take please take normal weather precautions: we will be outside for just over two hours.

Nika Garrett is a City of London Guide and a member of Greenwich Tour Guides Association. She also works as a guide at Thames Barrier Information Centre. Nika loves guiding in Soho, Chelsea, Wapping, Greenwich, City and other parts of London. Her walks are full of history and art. For more information visit her website www.mylondonwalks.co.ukYou may also like to follow her on Twitter @myLondonwalks

Meeting point: Outside St Paul's station, Exit 2.

Just a little tip for now:

Strong communication is a balance of novelties and repetition. In music, this is equivalent to the principle of rhythm: a pattern that is repeated again and again. We love it and can dance with it because of its predictability, but but but... there are always changes, surprises, fluctuations... to keep it alive!
